BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Set amongst more than 2,000 acres of remote land with virtually no development around the course, World Woods Golf Club is a pure golf escape within an hour's drive of the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
Opened in 1993, this 36-hole complex is all-encompassing. While the clubhouse may be modest, the golf offerings are anything but: complete with a circular driving range, enormous putting and practice green, an irons range, an executive course and three practice holes.
Headlining the offerings are two 18-hole courses designed by Tom Fazio, Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks. Though the two courses play beside one another, their appearances are completely different.
Pine Barrens, rated in the Top 100 Public Golf Courses by Golf Digest, sits on sandy soil that Fazio helped sculpt into a dramatic golf course that features huge, natural-looking waste bunkers, while holes are framed by tall pines.
Rolling Oaks, on the other hand, features a similarly long and challenging golf course that can play more than 7,300 yards from the championship tees. The design is more traditional, however, with large bunkers helping to shape doglegs around mighty, mossy oak trees. Regardless of which style you prefer, both courses easily rank among the top must-play golf courses in the Tampa area.
