Tiger-free Windermere Country Club: A sporty, semi-private golf course that's fun for the rest of us

WINDERMERE, Fla. -- If Windermere Country Club Assistant Professional Jason Schneider received a dollar for every time a visiting golfer asked about Tiger Woods, he might have a PGA Tour-sized bank account.
Woods used to live at nearby Isleworth Golf & Country Club, but so many golf fans heard him introduced on the first tee at majors as hailing from "Windermere, Florida," they tend to get confused.
"Several times a day people ask me if he was a member here," Schneider said. "I had heard he came out a few times."
The 6,606-yard Windermere isn't the brawny test that would attract Woods, although Brian Gay, Brian Davis, Alexandre Rocha and Christina Kim have all been spotted on the tee in recent years. It's a sporty, semi-private layout that's fun for the rest of us.
New TifEagle grass on the greens, installed in 2010, has raised the bar on conditioning, providing consistently fast surfaces. The three-hole stretch across the street from the main property -- affectionately named "Aman Corner" after a former member -- defines most rounds. The treacherous par-5 15th hole and demanding par-4 16th hole wind around wetlands and a pond.
