FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- Located on Amelia Island but less than 30 minutes from the Jacksonville International Airport, The Golf Club at North Hampton is a signature course of Arnold Palmer and renowned course architect Ed Seay. Carved into the natural surroundings and framed by spring-fed lakes lined with coquina boulders, wild grass and rolling dunes, the course has a bit of a Scottish links-style feel to it, but is very playable with plenty of room off the tee.
Still, depending on the tees you play (they range from 4,697 yards to 7,080 yards), the course has plenty of challenge with water on half the holes, difficult bunkers and undulating greens.
Another attractive aspect of The Golf Club at North Hampton are the numerous bridges and man-made dunes. There's even a little elevation change at times. And the final hole plays uphill to a beautiful clubhouse, which offers a restaurant and full-service golf shop. This semi-private facility, which is run by Hampton Golf (of which former PGA of America President M.G. Orender is president), also has excellent practice facilities that include a practice green, short-game area and grass range.
